CTM Festival Kicks Off in Berlin: A Week-Long Exploration of Sound and Technology

The CTM Festival, a celebrated event showcasing the intersection of music, technology, and art, is taking place from January 26th to February 4th in various spaces across the city. This year's programme promises a diverse array of talks, performances, and installations that delve into the world of sound and its transformative potential.

On February 3rd, Morphine Raum hosts The Sweetness of Coming Undone talk and book launch at 18:00. The same day, at Radialsystem Saal, visitors can attend Quantum Computing and Sound talks and performances from 15:00 to 18:30. In the evening, at 20:00, Oceanic Refractions, an immersive installation, will be running throughout the festival at Silent Green's Kuppelhalle.

The following day, at Volksbühne, Aïsha Devi and others will perform in the Closing Concert, which starts at 20:00 and ends at 22:00. Earlier on the 4th, at Radialsystem Saal, there will be a Research Networking Day with sessions such as Embodied Listening (13:50), Locating Sounds (15:40), and Sounding AI (12:00).

Other highlights include Through the Thinking Iceberg, a performance at Volksbühne on February 3rd (20:00 - 21:30) and at Radialsystem Saal on the same day (17:00 - 18:00) as an artist talk. On the Edge: Ireland, Rave and the Periphery, a panel discussion, takes place at Radialsystem Saal on February 3rd (15:30 - 16:30).

The festival also features several thought-provoking sessions, such as Resynthesising Identities, Discussions and Sonic Intervention, exploring 'resynthesis' as a tool for rebuilding connections among indigenous communities, happening at Radialsystem Saal on January 30th.

Moreover, the festival hosts performances like Osmium, a show probing how organic sounds blend into the sounds of machines, taking place at Silent Green Betonhalle on January 28th. One Leg One Eye, a melancholy and moving multimedia experience by Ian Lynch, will be at Radialsystem Halle on January 29th.

HJirok, a project exploring the effects of climate change in the Iranian-Kurdish region, will appear at Silent Green 2, Betonhalle, on January 28th. Heinali, a Ukrainian composer and sound artist, will give an artist talk at Radialsystem Saal on January 31st, where he reimagines mediaeval music with a modular synthesiser.

Lastly, RSO. Berlin Summe hosts FBM event with Femme Bass Mafia on February 3rd, starting from 22:30 and running until 8:00 AM. Pisitakun, a significant figure in Thailand's anti-monarchy movement, will take over Berghain Säule with his long-term project 'The Three Sound of Revolution' on January 26th.

With such a rich and diverse lineup, the CTM Festival promises to be an unforgettable exploration of sound, technology, and art for all attendees.
