Fest plans for Regensburg Citizen's Celebration 2025 revealed.
In the heart of June, Regensburg's Old Town and Stadtamhof districts morph into open-air stages for one of Bavaria's grandest city and cultural festivals. This year's theme, "Together!", promises a symphony of music, art, theater, and positive vibes echoing through the city center. Music aficionados can groove to a multitude of concerts and performances across various stages scattered throughout the city.
Collaborative Celebration - Partner Cities Participation
The festivities kick off early on Thursday, June 19, with the "Warm-Up" event on Jahn Island. This city-announced spectacle will set the tone for the rest of the festive weekend, featuring a mix of Bavarian and Scottish music to celebrate the 70-year-old friendship between Regensburg and Aberdeen. The star-studded lineup includes the St. Konrad Youth Brass Band, Regensburg Stamm Traditional Music Group, Scottish Country Dance group from the Regensburg Sports Club, and a traditional "Ceilidh" music group from Aberdeen.
Joining the party on Friday, June 20, is Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer, who will officially open the Citizen Festival at Domplatz alongside citizens and guests from the partner cities. Additionally, a dance group from the Hungarian partner city of Budavár and the rock band Southern Ways from Tempe, Arizona, will join the festivities. Pilsen and Brixen, other partner cities, will have stands at Domplatz, while the lively "Ceilidh" music group from Aberdeen will perform on Saturday and Sunday.
More Than Music
The Citizen Festival stretches its arms wide open to everyone, offering diverse activities for all ages. For families and children, the "Children's Magic at the Citizen Festival," organized by Regensburg's city marketing, promises craft activities, sports, dance classes, and much more at the Spielplatz Scheugässchen, Gutenbergplatz, and Grieser Spitz.[1] Details on other children's activities can be found on the festival's website at www.buergerfest-regensburg.de.
Bargain hunters and flea market enthusiasts can dive into a treasure trove of finds at the Citizen Festival. The children's flea market and DillyDally-Design Promenade along the Danube are calling out to visiting scavengers. Additionally, various offers will be available at stands scattered across the Old Town area.
The Sky's the Limit!
For those daring enough, the Krangondel Action at the Old Kornmarkt offers a thrilling 80-meter ride in an autocrane, complete with a panoramic view of the Bürgerfest through the passenger gondola's glass floor. The Old Kornmarkt further features a choir stage where local choirs and vocal ensembles will perform.
The city's churches and historical sites also open their doors to visitors. For a taste of medieval times, performances and interactive activities await you.
Sustainability and the Middle Ages
This year's Citizen Festival puts a spotlight on sustainability. The Sustainability Mile in Keplerstraße returns, expanded to include Weinläden. Detailed information about Agenda 2030 and sustainability goals can be found at various stands at Grieser Spitz, the Sustainability Mile, and the Social Mile in Weißgerbergraben.
Dance Your Heart Out
From jazz to rock and electronic beats, music fans can enjoy non-stop entertainment at 22 performance venues with numerous stages across the city. The Rave in Degginger will keep dance enthusiasts on their feet with upbeat music from Friday night to early morning.
Festival Information at Your Fingertips
An information pavilion at Rathausplatz will provide details about the Bürgerfest program and merchandise featuring the 2025 Bürgerfest artwork designed by Regensburg artist Nathalie Jodl. The entire festival program can also be found on the website www.buergerfest-regensburg.de.
