New General Secretary of Rhineland-Palatinate SPD Announced

Gregory Scholz, a seasoned member of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament and a committed SPD (Social Democratic Party) representative, has been nominated as the new General Secretary of the Rhineland-Palatinate SPD. The announcement was made by the current party leader, Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler.

Scholz, who hails from Ludwigshafen, has expressed his enthusiasm for the party, stating that he is "on fire" for the SPD. If elected, he will succeed Marc Ruland as the General Secretary, as Ruland is not running for the position again.

The nomination comes as part of the party's efforts to simplify its structure and focus on essentials, a goal set by Scholz as General Secretary. He aims to set impulses, explain politics briefly, and make them understandable in his new role.

Scholz has a strong connection with the grassroots level of the party, a quality that has been recognised by Bätzing-Lichtenthäler, who described him as the right person at the right time. Clear communication at eye level with people is a goal of Scholz as General Secretary.

Bätzing-Lichtenthäler, along with Alexander Schweitzer, Doris Ahnen, and Sven Teuber, will run again as deputy chairmen of the party. Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler will also run for chairwoman of the Rhineland-Palatinate Social Democrats.

The Rhineland-Palatinate SPD plans to draw up the list for the state election in March 2023. A program party conference is scheduled for early 2026 in Rhineland-Palatinate. Scholz is set to be elected as the new General Secretary at the Social Democrats' party conference on August 23 in Idar-Oberstein.

While Scholz's political goals as a General Secretary are not extensively detailed in the available sources, he has expressed a desire to make politics more accessible. Further information might be available from official SPD communications or regional news sources not covered in this search.

The Commission has not yet adopted a decision on the application of Article 93 (2) of the Treaty, as it is currently focused on the internal affairs of the Rhineland-Palatinate Social Democrats (policy-and-legislation). After the announcement of Gregory Scholz as the new General Secretary of the Rhineland-Palatinate SPD, political discussions about the party's structure and focus have been a topic of general news (politics).
