Ferrari leader derides journalists: 'Unacceptable rudeness' - Ferrari team leader openly expresses disregard towards media reporters
Frédéric Vasseur, Team Principal of Ferrari, has blasted Italian media for creating unnecessary turmoil within his Formula 1 team by spreading unverified information.
"I don't wish to generalize all journalists, but this is unacceptable, disrespectful, and downright foolish," Vasseur stated before the Canadian Grand Prix. "What's being circulated is disrespectful to our hardworking team, and I fail to understand why."
Recent articles hinted at Vasseur's purported dismissal, Lewis Hamilton's early retirement, and other personnel changes at Scuderia Ferrari.
"The hubbub stirred up is limited to a handful of media outlets," said Vasseur. "It's not an attack on me; I can stomach criticism." With a lacklustrous start to the season, Ferrari's likelihood of winning the championship is dwindling.
Both highly influential sports daily "Gazzetta dello Sport" and the "Corriere della Sera" had reported that Vasseur's tenure would be scrutinized more closely. "Since the week's beginning, we've been discussing nothing else," Vasseur expressed before the tenth race of the season on Sunday (20:00 CET / Sky and RTL).
Constrained to maintain composure at a press conference, Vasseur feared a penalty if he couldn't contain himself. "I must ensure I don't lose my cool in this setting, or else I'll likely end up with the race stewards," Vasseur warned.
Team Solidarity
In spite of sports adversity, there's a positive vibe within the team, according to Vasseur. "There's a great camaraderie among us, and our spirits remain high," Vasseur added.
Lewis Hamilton and teammate Charles Leclerc had both publicly voiced their support for Vasseur prior. "I unequivocally support Fred. He's the key reason I joined Ferrari," Hamilton declared.
When probed about the team's troupe, Vasseur stood tall and commended his workforce. "It bothers me when journalists focus on my staff in a derogatory manner," Vasseur explained. "These journalists should realize every member of our team has families and children. It's disrespectful."
