Ferrari aims for speed record on aircraft carrier

In the picturesque coastal town of Civitavecchia, Italy, a thrilling spectacle unfolded on Thursday as race car driver Fabio Barone aimed to break the world record for the fastest car on a boat.

The event, which took place on a navy ship, saw Barone pilot a red-and-black Ferrari SF90 at breakneck speeds. The car was unveiled with a unique touch, as children with Down syndrome helped reveal it to the world.

As the clock struck the right moment, Barone warmed up the car's V-8 turbo engine by driving back and forth along the flight deck several times. With the crowd holding their breath, he zipped past them at a speed of 164 kilometers per hour, shattering the previous record.

The official timekeeper declared the new record after inspecting the car's gauges, and Barone raised his arms to the sky and hugged his crew in jubilation. The Top Gun theme song played in the background, adding an extra layer of excitement to the momentous occasion.

However, the day was not without its challenges. The ship's flight deck was wet in the morning, which could have made reaching maximum speed and applying brakes dangerous. The crew worked tirelessly to dry the deck before the event, ensuring the safety of all involved.

Barone compared his driving technique to that of a pianist, using both hands and feet simultaneously to navigate the slippery surface. Despite the potential hazards, he maintained his focus and concentration throughout the record-breaking run.

Guinness World Records has expressed interest in reviewing Barone's latest attempt, and his team plans to submit their certified result to the organisation. Reporters swarmed around Barone after the event, eager to capture his reactions and share the story of his incredible achievement.

A photo of the event was taken by AP, immortalising the moment for posterity. Last year, Fabio Barone set the Italian Timekeepers Federation's record at 152kph on another aircraft carrier. However, this time, he has raised the bar even higher, leaving the world in awe of his remarkable driving skills.

Despite Alessandro Tedino's initial doubts about the attainability of the new record, Barone has proven that with determination, focus, and skill, even the most challenging goals can be achieved. The new speed record on a ship has been set, and Fabio Barone's name will forever be etched in the annals of automotive history.
