Pauline Ferrand-Prévot Takes Command in Tour de France Femmes 2023

Pauline Ferrand-Prévot of Visma-Lease a Bike clinched a decisive victory on stage 8 of the Tour de France Femmes 2023, securing the yellow jersey and taking control of the race with just one stage left to race.

The queen stage, which finished atop the Col de la Madeleine, saw Ferrand-Prévot obliterate her rivals in the overall classification, creating a significant gap that puts her firmly in the lead.

Ferrand-Prévot's winning margin was impressive, as she soloed to victory, leaving her nearest competitors struggling to keep up. Niamh Fisher-Black of Lidl-Trek finished third, 2 minutes and 15 seconds behind, while Sarah Gigante of AG Insurance-Soudal came in second, 1 minute and 45 seconds behind.

The general classification after stage 8 reflects Ferrand-Prévot's dominance, with Sarah Gigante moving up to second overall and Demi Vollering of FDJ-Suez in third. Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney of Canyon-SRAM rounds out the top four, all within a few minutes of Ferrand-Prévot.

The stage saw several breakaways, including Riejanne Markus (Lidl-Trek), Marion Bunel (Visma-Lease a Bike), Justine Ghekiere (AG Insurance-Soudal), and Maëva Squiban (UAE Team ADQ), among others. However, Ferrand-Prévot's determination and superiority on the climbs saw her break away from the pack with just 10km remaining, cruising to a comfortable victory.

Ferrand-Prévot's lead over Gigante heading into the final stage is now 2 minutes and 37 seconds, leaving her well-placed to secure an overall victory in the Tour de France Femmes 2023.
