Female cyclist, Mavi García triumphs individually in stage 2 of the Tour de France Femmes, showcasing a thrilling performance.

Mavi Garcia, the Spanish professional cyclist, made history on Sunday by winning Stage 2 of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift in a solo effort. This was her biggest win of her career and came after a chaotic final 30km of the 110km stage.

The stage began with several attacks, with Aude Biannic (Movistar) and Franziska Koch (Picnic-PostNL) getting away at the start. However, their lead was short-lived, as a group of three riders, including Maud Rijnbeek (VolkerWessels) and Silke Smulders (Liv AlUla Jayco), formed a new breakaway.

Meanwhile, Movistar's GC rider, Marlen Reusser, failed to finish stage one due to illness. Rijnbeek was dropped on the final circuit and returned to the chasing peloton, while Smulders and Elise Chabbey (Canyon-SRAM zondacrypto) continued to push ahead.

Defending champion Kasia Niewiadoma made several attempts to catch up, but the gap was too big. Demi Vollering (FDJ-SUEZ) brought last year's winner Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney and Pauline Ferrand-Prevot back to the leading trio.

As the stage approached its end, Rijnbeek was caught by Maeva Squiban (UAE Team ADQ). With 17km to go, Riejanne Markus (Lidl-Trek) bridged to the leading trio. However, it was Garcia who made her move just inside the 12km mark, and she managed to maintain her lead until the finish line.

Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx-Protime) was caught out during the climb and later returned to the bunch, indicating her form. The victory gave Garcia a significant lead in the overall standings, with Lorena Wiebes finishing in second place and Kim Le Court taking third place.

Born on January 2, 1984, in Palma de Majorca, Garcia began her cycling career in 2015 with the team Bizkaia-Durango while simultaneously competing in duathlon, where she was highly successful. She has won numerous races, including the Tour de Burgos and a stage of the Tour de France Femmes in 2025. She currently rides for the Liv AlUla Jayco World Tour team and is ranked 20th in the UCI World Ranking.

With her diverse athletic background, which includes figure skating before her endurance sports career, Garcia continues to make a name for herself in the world of cycling. Her victory in Stage 2 of the Tour de France Femmes is a testament to her determination and skill as a rider.
