Victorious Harvestehuder THC Women Claim 15th Field Hockey Title in Emotional Win
Women Secure 15th Victory in Field Hockey Championship - Female Athletes Claim Fifteenth Victory in Field Hockey Championship
The Harvestehuder THC ladies have snatched glory once more, ending a half-century title drought by nabbing the German Women's Bundesliga crown. On a tense Sunday in Krefeld, they edged out defending champions Düsseldorfer HC 2:1 (1:0) in an electrifying final, witnessed by 3,400 eager spectators.
Emilia Landshut (22nd minute) and Laura Saenger (35th) notched up goals for HTHC, both attributed to slick penalty corner set-pieces. Friederike Heusgen (39th) pulled one back for Düsseldorf, also from a penalty corner.
An elated goalkeeper, Rosa Kruger, who is hanging up her boots after this triumphant result, was voted the most valuable player of the final. With her heart on her sleeve, Kruger confessed, "Winning the way we did—leaving everything out there on the pitch—couldn't have been any more perfect."
Historically, Harvestehuder THC already holds 14 prior field hockey titles under their belts, but this latest triumph knocks on the door of the Euro Hockey League (EHL) for the first time. Their head coach, Tobias Jordan, enthused, "This is a dream come true for all of us—what a ride it's going to be!"
In sharp contrast, the men's tournament favorites, Hamburger Polo Club, suffered an agonizing 2:4 (0:2) defeat to hosts Crefelder HTC in the semifinal. Despite Leon Thornblom (31st) and Paul Smith (44th) tying the game 2-2 in the third quarter, team Captain Mathias Müller couldn't help feeling "disappointed," yet reassured there's "no Polo curse" to speak of.
Yet, the honor of competing in the EHL for the first time goes to Harvestehuder THC, adding another chapter to their storied history in the sport.
