What he misses most about his mother - Felix Neureuther honors his late mother’s legacy with his children

Felix Neureuther still feels the loss of his mother, skiing legend Rosi Mittermaier, who died on January 4, 2023, at the age of 72. After a long battle with cancer, her absence weighs heavily on him—not just as a mother, but as a grandmother his children barely knew.

Mittermaier’s death left a deep void, especially for her grandchildren. Neureuther’s four children—Matilda (5), Leo (5), Lotta (3), and a youngest son born in 2025—will have few, if any, lasting memories of her. The three oldest are already skiing, while the youngest will take their first steps into winter sports next year. Yet their grandmother’s influence lingers in small ways.

Mittermaier’s legacy lives on through her family, even if her grandchildren’s memories are faint. Neureuther continues to honour her by sharing stories and keeping her spirit alive in their daily lives. The pain of her loss remains, but so does the love she left behind.
