Felix Magath assumes CEO position, returning to original role
In a significant move for German football, former Bayern double-winning coach Felix Magath has joined the supervisory board of his hometown club, Viktoria Aschaffenburg, in the Regionalliga Bayern.
Magath, who spent most of his playing career at Hamburger SV, brings a wealth of experience to the table, having also saved Hertha BSC from Bundesliga relegation via playoffs against Hamburger SV in 2022. His extensive knowledge and expertise in the sport will be instrumental in driving the club's sporting development.
As the new Sportvorstand (head of sports), Magath will guide the club's athletic and team development strategies, aiming to improve performance across all levels, not just the first team. His role is initially on a provisional basis, with confirmation expected at a member assembly later in 2025.
Magath's appointment comes alongside that of Matthias Hartmann, who will take over the position of board chairman. The two join other board members with complementary roles, signaling a governance team working collectively on club development.
Despite the change in leadership, there will be no shift in strategy for Viktoria Aschaffenburg. Regionality and youth promotion will remain central to the club's actions, with Magath's background in youth development at Viktoria Aschaffenburg expected to further strengthen these values.
Magath's return to his hometown club is on a voluntary basis, reflecting his commitment to the club's long-term success. The financial consolidation path will continue at Viktoria Aschaffenburg, with Magath's strategic and operational expertise expected to substantially elevate the sporting standard and long-term competitiveness of the club.
