FEFU joins nationwide 'Katyusha' singalong for Victory Day anniversary
Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) has joined the nationwide campaign "Let's Sing 'Katyusha' Together" (0+). On May 6, participants will gather on the university campus to perform and record a video of the legendary wartime song ahead of the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The event will unite FEFU with dozens of other Russian cities. All women named Yekaterina (Katyusha) are welcome to take part, the university's press service reports.
The initiative—bringing together 100 women named Yekaterina in cities across Russia to sing "Katyusha"—was launched by TV host and blogger Konstantin Alekseyev. Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara, Novorossiysk, Novosibirsk, Minusinsk, and other Russian cities have already joined. On May 6, Alekseyev will travel to Vladivostok to film a music video with local participants—FEFU students, faculty, staff, and any other Katyushas eager to join. The footage from all cities will later be compiled into an original film.
"Local women are invited to participate. Age and singing ability don't matter—the only requirements are the name Yekaterina and a desire to foster unity, celebrate spring, and honor the memory of past generations," the university noted.
The video shoot will take place on May 6 at 4:00 PM on FEFU's campus (near the flagpole by the seaward side of Building A).
Participants are encouraged to wear spring dresses or skirts with blouses and traditional Russian headscarves. Braiding hair is also welcome. On the day of the event, all attendees must bring a passport or FEFU ID for campus access.
