Federal Prosecutor Maurene Comey, daughter of James Comey, Files Lawsuit Following Termination of Employment

In a bold move, Maurene Comey, a federal prosecutor, has filed a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration's decision to remove her from her position. The lawsuit alleges that her termination was politically motivated, with the most likely reason being President Donald Trump's disdain for her father, James Comey, a former FBI Director.

According to the lawsuit, Maurene Comey believes that her firing was unlawful and unconstitutional. Her attorney, Ellen Blain, conceded that the reasons for her dismissal were never explained. Upon speaking to Jay Clayton, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Comey was given a brief non-explanation that strongly suggested her termination was politically motivated.

The lawsuit expands on Comey's belief, detailing the long and publicly-antagonistic relationship between James Comey and President Trump. Trump has repeatedly called James Comey a "liar," saying that "he should be in jail." In 2019, Trump allegedly triggered an IRS audit of James Comey's finances.

At the time of her firing, Maurene Comey had worked with the federal government for nearly a decade, receiving positive performance reviews and promotions. She has been involved in high-profile cases related to Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Sean "Diddy" Combs. However, the lawsuit does not mention any specific high-profile cases Maurene Comey has been involved in since these earlier cases.

The lawsuit does not provide concrete evidence that President Trump directly ordered Maurene Comey's firing. It is only mentioned that she received the dismissal by email. The lawsuit does not specify which officials gave the order to dismiss Maurene Comey.

Earlier this year, the Secret Service launched an unrelated investigation after Comey made an Instagram post that Trump found distasteful. The lawsuit does not specify the nature of the Instagram post that led to the Secret Service investigation.

The lawsuit makes clear Comey's belief that this is not the first time her family has been attacked as a direct result of her father's work with the Bureau. Maurene Comey is the daughter of former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey.

Blain stated that there was no good cause to fire Maurene Comey, who had been an excellent Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District for a decade. The lawsuit alleges that Maurene Comey was terminated without case, advance notice, or opportunity to contest it, as alleged in her lawsuit.
