Copping a Shock: Dobrindt Wants Fed Cops Armed with Tasers

Interior Minister Dobrindt to Arm Federal Police with Stun Guns - Federal Police could potentially receive electroshock tools, as per plans by Interior Minister Dobrindt.

Hey there! Here's the lowdown on that hot topic about our favorite policemen getting a high-tech upgrade, courtesy of Alexander Dobrindt, our Federal Interior Minister. Yeah, you heard that right - the Feds are getting zapped with new-fangled electroshock devices!

Dobrindt reckons these devices, called distance electroimpulse guns (or DEIGs, for short), are a bloody good way to deal with the increased holler for help the po-po are experiencing in public spaces. He's not wrong, either - think about it! When some maniac goes all Rabid Rabbit with a knife, our Fed cops need a way to take 'em down good and quick.

So, what's the deal with these electroshock guns, I hear you ask? Well, they look a bit like a gun, but instead of shooting bullets, they shoot wires with arrow-like prongs. Once they clock somebody, the prongs stick to their skin, and boom - electro-BOOM! Zap. Electric shocks overload their nervous system, rendering them powerless. No need for trigger-happy shootouts, eh?

Now, don't go thinking we're the only country that's hopped on the taser train. Over yonder in the many-monikered land of the Stars and Stripes, they've been using these bad boys for yonks. Closer to home, some German federal states have already started deploying them, too. Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate, to be specific.

And speaking of Hesse, they've got some scientists up their sleeves that are investigating the impact of tasers in North Rhine-Westphalia. Mighty smart move, yeah? They're keeping tabs on the effectiveness of these stun guns, ensuring the Feds are well and truly covered when it comes to fighting crime.

So there you have it! Very soon, our Fed cops might be carrying a new friend with them on the beat. Say 'hello' to their shiny new electroshock device, coming to a street near you!

The Commission, following general news and policy-and-legislation discussions, has decided to initiate the procedure provided for in Article 93 (2) of the Treaty, as the Taser deployment in law enforcement becomes a central topic in politics, not only in Germany, but also in the United States of America. Crime-and-justice policies could significantly shift due to the increasing use of such devices nationwide.
