In a ceremony scheduled for July 8, 2025, at the State Chancellery in Magdeburg, Dr. Reiner Haseloff will present four Federal Merit Crosses and Merit Medals to four distinguished individuals in recognition of their exceptional contributions to their respective fields.

Among the honourees is Henriette Berner, a former bank clerk from Wernigerode, who will receive a Merit Cross (Ribbon) for her decades of outstanding service, particularly in the social sector. Berner, who was one of the founding members of the Lions Club "Anna zu Stolberg" Wernigerode in 1994, significantly contributed to the organisational restructuring and financial stabilisation of the German Red Cross in Wernigerode since 1990, serving as its treasurer until 1996.

Another recipient of the Merit Cross (Ribbon) is Lothar Galonska, a former swimming instructor from Bernburg. Galonska will be recognised for his outstanding contribution to swimming in the Salzland district. With over five decades of service, Galonska has been the head and later deputy head of the swimming department in FSV Nienburg 1990 e.V. since 1970.

Dr. Dietlind Hagenau, from Leuna, will receive a Merit Cross (Ribbon) for her outstanding contributions to local politics. Hagenau, who was first elected mayor of Leuna in 1994 and held the position until 2022, made pivotal decisions for urban development and successfully advocated for the formation of the unified municipality of Leuna. In 1990, Hagenau became the department head for education, culture, sports, and social affairs in Leuna.

Jens Hennicke, from Calbe/Saale, will be recognised with a Federal Merit Medal. Hennicke, a social insurance specialist, led the Saxony-Anhalt regional office of the Techniker Krankenkasse from 1998 to 2018. Since 2014, Hennicke has been the district gamekeeper in the Salzland district. Hennicke is actively involved in the CDU and has served on the Enquete Commission on Health Prevention of the state parliament and the Demography Council. From 2021, Hennicke has been the chairman of the Medical Service of the Health Funds in Saxony-Anhalt.

Berner, Galonska, Hagenau, and Hennicke join a distinguished list of individuals who have been honoured with Federal Merit Crosses and Merit Medals for their exceptional contributions to their communities and fields. The ceremony promises to be a celebration of their achievements and a testament to the power of dedication and service.

The recognition of Henriette Berner's decades of service in the social sector and her significant contribution to the organizational restructuring and financial stabilization of the German Red Cross in Wernigerode demonstrates the importance of policy-and-legislation and politics in the realm of general-news.

Jens Hennicke's active involvement in the CDU, service on the Enquete Commission on Health Prevention of the state parliament, and chairmanship of the Medical Service of the Health Funds in Saxony-Anhalt highlight the link between education and policy-and-legislation within the broader context of politics.
