Federal law enforcement agencies have carried out an arrest under a warrant, with a 28-year-old individual expected to be held in custody for approximately 2months and 10 days.
German National Sentenced for Fraudulently Obtaining Benefits, Arrested at Stendal Central Station
A 28-year-old German national found himself in hot water once again after being arrested by the Federal Police at Stendal Central Station on September 13, 2025. The incident stemmed from a long-standing dispute with the Public Prosecutor's Office in Wuppertal, who had issued two arrest warrants against him for fraudulently obtaining benefits.
The trouble began in August 2023 when the man was initially sentenced to a fine of 900 euros or 60 days of imprisonment for the first instance of fraud. However, it appears that he only paid a small part of the sentence, prompting the Public Prosecutor's Office in Wuppertal to issue an arrest warrant for the remaining amount in April 2025.
The man's identity was confirmed without doubt during the identity verification process at Stendal Central Station. The officers in charge informed the commissioning authority about the enforcement of the arrest warrants and filed another criminal complaint against the man for fraudulently obtaining benefits during his current journey without a required ticket.
In July 2025, another arrest warrant was issued based on an enforceable decision from the Wuppertal Local Court in April 2025. This time, the man was facing a remaining fine of 1260 euros or 35 days of imprisonment. With the outstanding amount of 1980 euros, the man was taken into custody and could not pay the fee, so he was taken to a detention facility to serve his remaining 83 days of imprisonment.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of fraudulently obtaining benefits and the diligence of the authorities in enforcing the law. The public is encouraged to cooperate with the authorities and to always have valid tickets and identification when travelling by train.
