Federal Law Enforcement Agencies' Collaborative Statement: Announcement by the Rostock Federal Police Inspectorate and the Rostock Police Inspectorate following the F.C. Hansa Rostock and FC Energie Cottbus match
On Saturday, the much-anticipated football match between F.C. Hansa Rostock and FC Energie Cottbus took place at the Ostseestadion in Rostock. The game, classified as a high-risk event beforehand, was attended by a total of 27,800 spectators, including around 2,600 away fans.
Before the match, a fan march in the Reutershagen district caused temporary traffic restrictions. Approximately 1,500 F.C. Hansa Rostock fans and 300 FC Energie Cottbus fans traveled by train.
Unfortunately, the match was marred by several incidents. Unknown persons are suspected of committing a hate speech offense in the train between Neustrelitz and Stralsund. During the departure phase, both home and away fans committed various criminal offenses in the train area, including disturbance of the peace, bodily harm, and insult. Away fans set off pyrotechnics at Rostock station, and the police have filed several reports for violations of the Pyrotechnics Act in this context.
In a disturbing incident after the game, a 36-year-old German allegedly threw a cup towards the FC Energie Cottbus coach, resulting in a report being filed for attempted dangerous bodily harm.
Law enforcement officers identified a home fan as a suspect in connection with a previous crime at the main station. Meanwhile, a 39-year-old woman was identified by a 'Super-Recognizer' as a suspect in a theft case at Bremen main station, unrelated to Rostock.
During the game, away fans damaged the fan net towards the playing field, and the police filed a report for property damage.
A total of 1,230 officers, including 400 federal police officers, secured the operation. The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state police and the federal police received support from officers from Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt.
