German Federal Police to Establish New Training Facility
In a significant development for the German security sector, Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser recently visited the Federal Police Academy in Lübeck. During her visit, she announced plans to establish a new permanent training facility for the Federal Police.
The Federal Police Academy, which serves as the central training institution for the approximately 54,000 employees of the Federal Police, operates seven training centers across various locations, including Neustrelitz, Walsrode, Swisttal, Diez, Eschwege, Oerlenbach, and Bamberg. It also manages a training facility in Bielefeld, the Federal Police Sports Schools Bad Endorf and Kienbaum, and the Federal Police Training Center Kührointhaus.
The Academy offers subject-specific training for various areas of the authority such as rail police, border police, air security, police technology, police sports, foreign deployment, and deployment in the police medical service. It also collaborates closely with other national and international police training institutions.
Minister Faeser, in her address, expressed her appreciation for the committed and highly professional work of the Federal Police. She stated that the new training center, yet to be established, will further enhance the capabilities of the Federal Police officers.
The exact site of the planned Bundespolizei training facility according to Faeser's decision is not specified at this time. However, it has been revealed that the new facility will be established in Rotenburg an der Fulda, a city in the state of Hesse.
Since 2021, the Federal Police has been strengthened by 1,000 posts per year. The Federal Police is a key entity for security in Germany, responsible for border control, sea security, railway security, airport security, combating human trafficking, supporting states in major deployments, and foreign deployments.
The Federal Police Academy also serves as the central further training institution of the Federal Police, offering seminars for various target groups, including the federal government, states, and foreign entities. It is responsible for all personnel recruitment measures and serves as the employment office of the Federal Police.
The Academy lays the foundation for Federal Police officers to be well-equipped for deployment. It covers interdisciplinary topics, including police-specific, social science, medical, and ethical subjects. The focus of today's visit was on further training, including practical police training, specialist courses, and leadership seminars.
In conclusion, the establishment of the new training facility in Rotenburg an der Fulda is a significant step towards strengthening the capabilities of the Federal Police and ensuring the safety and security of the German people.
