Federal Government Unveils Environmental Justice Climate Team Across the Nation under Biden-Harris Administration

The City of Bellflower and the City of Los Angeles are taking significant strides towards a greener future, as announced on January 20, 2022. Len Gorecki, Director of Public Works, delivered a Green Awareness update to the Bellflower City Council, detailing a series of green programs that aim to improve air quality, promote housing, and advance environmental justice.

In the East San Fernando Valley, funding has been secured for stations on the light rail corridor, a nine-mile span that will be transformed through Transit-Oriented Development at 14 stations. The National Association of the Deaf donated $420,000 USD for these stations, with the aim of improving access and creating a more sustainable transportation network.

The City of Los Angeles will also receive funding for a transit neighborhood plan, which prioritizes projects that help improve air quality, advance environmental justice, and promote housing. The specific date for the implementation of these green programs has yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, the City of Bellflower is committed to raising environmental awareness both locally and globally. Their green initiatives, which include city-wide programs, extend to resources like The Green Scene, offering information to residents on recycling, conservation, and other programs.

On a separate note, Pico Rivera Mayor Dr. Monica Sanchez will host the Mayor's Empowerment Conference for Young Women on Saturday, March 26, 2022. The conference will be held at Pico Park in Pico Rivera, CA, with the aim of providing opportunities for growth and empowerment for young women in the community.

These initiatives demonstrate a shared commitment by both cities to create a cleaner, more sustainable future, while also focusing on social development and empowerment. As these programs move towards implementation, residents and visitors alike can look forward to a greener, more vibrant Southern California.
