Virologist Sandra Ciesek has been lauded with a prestigious accolade, the Federal Cross of Merit First Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. This recognition comes from her pioneering work in the sphere of virology and her commendable social involvement, as announced by the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs in Wiesbaden. Social Affairs Minister Kai Klose, from the Green Party, presented her with the award.

Before the pandemic turned into a global crisis, Ciesek and her team had already proven that even those showing no symptoms could transmit the virus. Minister Klose highlighted this during his laudatory speech. Ciesek's ability to communicate complex scientific concepts in a simple and patient manner stood out, particularly in her collaborations with renowned German virologist Christian Drosten in the NDR Corona podcast.

Sandra Ciesek's educational journey started at the University of Göttingen and Hannover Medical School, where she studied Medicine from 1997 to 2003. Since 2019, she has served as the Director of the Institute of Medical Virology at Frankfurt University Hospital and holds a Professorship of Medical Virology at Goethe University.

Her illustrious career has earned her a prominent place in the scientific community, alongside figures like Minister Kai Klose, who highlighted her significant contributions in his heartfelt speech.
