Federal Conservative Democrats of Saarland seek complete transfer of national infrastructure funding to local townships
In a joint statement, the Saarland CDU, led by Stephan Toscani, chairman of the CDU state parliamentary group, Marcus Hoffeld, spokesman for the CDU mayors, and Roland Theis, CDU federal MP, have called for the expedited distribution of funds from the Federal Infrastructure Package in Germany.
The Federal Ministry of Finance (Bundesfinanzministerium) is responsible for issuing the total 1.2 billion euros from the package. This funding is supported by federal-level funding frameworks and borrowing measures linked to the package, as seen in budget planning and debt issuance.
Roland Theis, in particular, is urging the state government to minimize bureaucratic hurdles and ensure the funds reach municipalities without unnecessary delays. His appeal for quick and unbureaucratic distribution is reminiscent of the economic stimulus package of 2009, where simplified procedures and direct awards were implemented.
Theis emphasizes the need for the infrastructure package to take effect quickly, particularly for municipalities that bear the main burden of maintaining public infrastructure. These facilities, maintained and renewed locally, are crucial for any infrastructure promotion efforts. The goal is to have less paperwork and more visible results in municipalities, allowing citizens to see improvements in their local areas.
Saarland's municipalities, which are among the financially weakest in Germany, deserve special attention in this context. Mayor Marcus Hoffeld is advocating for the entire 1.2 billion euros from the federal infrastructure package to be allocated to municipal infrastructure.
The focus of infrastructure promotion, according to Hoffeld, should be on schools, kindergarten facilities, municipal roads and bridges, fire station buildings, community centers, swimming pools, and sports halls. This clear focus on the municipal level is necessary, given the existing transformation fund of the state that invests in state infrastructure.
Theis's call for direct awards is intended to further expedite the distribution of funds to municipalities, minimizing bureaucratic hurdles and ensuring that the funds from the infrastructure package reach municipalities without unnecessary delays. The Saarland CDU is advocating for the entire 1.2 billion euros from the federal infrastructure package to be allocated to the municipal level.
By speeding up the distribution of infrastructure funds, the Saarland CDU aims to address the pressing needs of municipalities and contribute to visible improvements in local areas. This approach is expected to benefit citizens and businesses alike, fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life in municipalities across Saarland.
