Federal Chief Türmer Urges Intervention by the Federal Chancellor due to Border Denial

Facebook Twitter Whatsapp E-Mail Print Copy Link In wake of Berlin Administrative Court ruling, Juso-Chef Philipp Türmers calls for Chancellor Friedrich Merz to intervene.

The Minister of Interior, Alexander Dobrindt, must bend to the law and respect the court ruling, according to Türmers. "The ruling of the Berlin Administrative Court makes clear as day what we've been saying: Border rejections are illegal!" exclaims Türmers. He further stated that it's unacceptable for Dobrindt to maintain an unlawful directive, urging police officials to break the law.

In the face of Dobrindt's stubbornness, Türmers calls for drastic action from the Chancellor. "Merz needs to slam on the brakes," Türmers asserts. "There's no legal basis for border rejections. Instead of backing Dobrindt, immediate action is needed to set the Minister on the correct path."

On Monday, the Berlin Administrative Court sided with three Somalis who oppose their border rejections without a Dublin procedure evaluation. The court deemed the rejections as illegal.

Apparently, under the Dublin system[1][3][4], asylum seekers must have their applications examined before they can be turned away. The court decision could shake up Germany's hardline migration policy, potentially leading to a reevaluation of asylum practices.

Despite the court's ruling, there seems to be a surge in deportations in Germany during the first quarter of 2025[2]. It's unclear whether the Juso, the youth wing of the Social Democratic Party, has proposed any specific actions or demands to address the issue.

  1. In light of the court's ruling and the ongoing deportations in Germany, it seems prudent for the Juso to advocate for modifications in the community policy and employment policy regarding asylum seekers, as well as engage in policy-and-legislation discussions in the realm of politics related to general news.
  2. The surge in deportations in Germany despite the ruling, coupled with the Juso's demand for action on border rejections, raises questions about the effectiveness of the current European immigration policies under the Dublin system and necessitates a call for transparency and discussions in the political sphere about policy changes that might be necessary.
