Annual Nationwide Civil Defense Drill Scheduled for September 11

Germany will be conducting its annual nationwide civil defense drill on Thursday, 11th of September. This exercise is a routine event held on the second Thursday in September every year.

During the drill, warning systems across the country, including 28 sirens in the city of Lünen, will be tested. Citizens in Lünen can expect the sirens to sound at 11 a.m. during the drill. It is important to note that sirens are primarily used as an awakening signal and do not contain detailed information.

For more information about the drill, you can visit https://bundesweiter-warntag.de. The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) will send out test warnings via NINA, the Cell Broadcast system, and other channels. However, the test message via Cell Broadcast will only be sent to receptive mobile phones in Germany.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, the siren test will follow a uniform warning order: a one-minute steady tone for all-clear, a one-minute ascending and descending tone as a warning signal, and another one-minute steady tone to indicate all-clear.

Citizens can also receive behavioral instructions through supplementary channels such as warning apps, radio stations, or the digital offers of the city of Lünen. It is crucial to stay calm, seek shelter in a building, close doors and windows, and follow further instructions via apps or radio in case of an actual emergency.

The BBK will provide an online survey at https://warntag-umfrage.de starting at 11 a.m. during the drill. This survey is designed to gather feedback on the drill. The location for feedback should be provided as accurately as possible (neighborhood, street, if applicable, house number).

The Lünen fire department requests feedback on the audibility of the sirens. Feedback can be sent via email to bevoelkerungsschutz@feuerwehr-unserwebsite.

The emergency number (110/112) is exclusively for acute emergencies. For non-emergency situations, such as providing feedback on the drill, it is recommended to use the online survey or email.

Lastly, it is important to note that the name of the person or institution that created the online survey for the year 2025 after the National Civil Protection Exercise on September 11 is not publicly available at this time.
