Former DOJ lawyer calls out a federal judge for aiding a migrant's escape from ICE on 'America's Newsroom'

Federal authorities file a lawsuit against New York state, alleging that its sanctuary policy is undermining immigration enforcement and obstructing federal efforts to deport unauthorized immigrants.

Jim Trusty, a former DOJ prosecutor, recently sat down with 'America's Newsroom' to chat about Wisconsin federal judge Hannah Dugan getting indicted for allegedly assisting an illegal immigrant in evading ICE capture.

The Trump-era Department of Justice launched a lawsuit against New York last Thursday, criticizing the Protect Our Courts Act. This law, passed in 2020, bars ICE agents from carrying out civil arrests near state courts, an action the DOJ finds obstructive to federal immigration enforcement.

The lawsuit, announced by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, claims that the Protect Our Courts Act prevents ICE agents from making civil arrests of any illegal alien headed to or returning from a courthouse.

The suit targets two executive orders by former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, which prohibit immigration agents from conducting civil arrests at state facilities and block state workers from sharing information for civil immigration enforcement purposes.

The DOJ alleges that these Policies pose "tolerable obstacles" to federal immigration enforcement and conflicting with the Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution. Essentially, they are arguing that New York state is interfering with federal immigration laws.

New York accused of "undermining immigration enforcement"

Attorney General Pam Bondi accused New York of endangering law and order by undermining immigration enforcement with these laws, citing California's ongoing problems with lawless sanctuary cities. The DOJ has launched a series of lawsuits against sanctuary cities, reiterating their commitment to enforcing immigration laws and maintaining public safety.

Whistleblower calls on the DOJ to investigate "disturbing pattern" at taxpayer-funded hotels

In a separate issue, an immigrant shelter whistleblower requested an investigation into alleged mistreatment at taxpayer-funded hotels housing immigrants[3]. This case adds yet another layer of controversy to the already complex immigration landscape in the United States.

As the immigration debate rages on, the legal tussle between the DOJ and New York promises to deliver more intrigue in the near future. With both sides digging in their heels, it appears we're in for a rollercoaster ride of political maneuvering and constitutional conundrums. Stay tuned!
