A South Carolina Officer's Downfall: Ex-Attorney General Speaks on Becky Hill's Arrest Impact on Alex Murdaugh's Case

Federal authorities accuse a state representative of sharing child pornography under a username linked to President Biden.

In an exclusive conversation with our digital platform, former South Carolina Attorney General Charlie Condon revealed that retired Colleton County court clerk Becky Hill's arrest on a Wednesday is a significant blow to Alex Murdaugh's attempts for a retrial. Meanwhile, another South Carolina politician finds himself in hot water.

Child Porn Scandal Rocks South Carolina Politics

A state representative and co-founder of the Freedom Caucus, Robert John "RJ" May III, has been indicted on federal charges following allegations of using a Biden-themed account on a messaging app to spread child sexual abuse material.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of South Carolina stated that a federal grand jury in Greenville, SC, returned a 10-count indictment against May for distributing child sexual abuse material.

According to court documents, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip in April 2024 about several disturbing videos featuring child sexual abuse material, shared using the username "joebidennnn69" on the social messaging app Kik. Investigators reportedly traced the account back to May's West Columbia home IP address and mobile device.

Authorities found at least 10 videos depicting child sexual abuse that were shared from the account, officials stated. May was arrested at his home on Wednesday, according to The State.

Expected consequences for May

If convicted, May faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison with a minimum of five years, a fine of $250,000, and a term of at least five years of supervised release to follow any prison term.

May, who is a father of two, is assigned to the Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs Committee. The South Carolina Freedom Caucus, where May previously served as vice chair, has called for his resignation from the House. They emphasized their commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting children, while expressing their hope that justice will be served.

The caucus stated that May has not been actively involved in their operations since August 2024, when he was expelled from the group.

As investigations continue, it's crucial to remember that all accusations are merely allegations, and defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. In this case, it seems that South Carolina's political landscape is experiencing yet another shakeup due to inappropriate behavior.
