Federal Alert Day Announced

On Thursday, September 11, the fifth nationwide civil protection exercise day will take place. This drill, involving the federal government, states, and municipalities, aims to test warning systems for crisis and disaster situations.

In Aschaffenburg, the exercise will begin at 11 AM with a continuous one-minute tone from sirens. This tone is the "Warning to the Population" signal, helping residents to recognise the start of the drill.

A warning message will be sent to mobile phones and smartphones via the "Cell Broadcast" mobile service. Unlike other alert systems, Cell Broadcast does not require an app to be installed to receive alerts. A loud tone will sound upon receiving the warning text via Cell Broadcast.

In addition to Cell Broadcast, a test warning will also be sent via the "NINA" warning app. For those who wish to stay informed about all nationwide warning messages, the website https://warnung.bund.de offers a comprehensive list of these messages. Here, you can also find useful information on what to do in case of an emergency.

Once the drill is complete, an all-clear will be announced via sirens and all warning channels except Cell Broadcast around 11:45 AM. This will signal the end of the exercise and a return to normal activities.

By participating in this nationwide civil protection exercise, authorities aim to ensure that everyone is prepared and informed in case of a real crisis or disaster situation. Stay safe and stay informed.
