FDA fines Blinkit Rs 2 lakh for selling expired food in Pune
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken firm steps to crack down on online food delivery platforms selling expired products. A recent fine of Rs 2 lakh was imposed on Blinkit in Pune after a customer reported receiving expired food from the platform. Authorities have now warned of stricter penalties for similar violations across the country.
The issue came to light when a customer in Pune reported receiving expired food from Blinkit. An investigation confirmed the complaint, leading to the Rs 2 lakh penalty. Following this, FDA and Consumer Affairs Minister Narhari Zirwal issued a strong warning to all online food delivery services.
To reinforce enforcement, 191 new officers have been appointed to the FDA. These officials will monitor compliance and take independent action where necessary. The government is also gathering suggestions from public representatives in major cities to tighten regulations further. These proposals will be sent to the central authorities for review.
The FDA's latest measures aim to prevent the sale of expired food through online platforms. With more officers in place and stricter oversight, enforcement is expected to become more effective. Public input will also shape future regulations to ensure safer food delivery practices.
