FCM's U23 Team Lays Out Promotion Plans

FC Magdeburg's U23 team is riding high on its recent success, topping the Oberliga after its promotion last year. Petrik Sander's squad got off to a flying start in the Verbandsliga, sparking optimism in the local sporting community.

Sporting director Otmar Schork, 66, sees this as a testament to the club's approach. "Our goal is to preserve this talented young team," Schork said. "We aim to continue nurturing our budding stars while providing match practice for our local professionals in the senior team."

Unlike other German professional clubs, FCM is proactively pushing its U23 project, with Schork aiming to escalate youth work to higher levels. The strategy involves integrating U17 players into the U19 team and U19 players into the U23 team.

Schork emphasized, "Our focus is on nurturing these young players. Another promotion to the Regionalliga Nordost is not a mandate, but it would be an attractive prospect."

Boosting Promotion Chances

To further bolster their chances of securing a promotion, FC Magdeburg's U23 team needs to address several key areas:
