FCC Reevaluation of Licenses Proposed by Trump, Fueled by Backlash Over Jimmy Kimmel's Preemption

The Democratic caucus in the House of Representatives has called for the resignation of Brendan Carr, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), due to allegations of corrupt abuse of power.
The House Oversight Committee, chaired by James Comer, believes Carr would be willing to testify regarding the accusations against him. However, Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna has moved to subpoena Carr to appear before the committee, as one Democrat attempted to do previously. The House Oversight Committee, in a 24-21 vote, tabled Khanna's motion.
The controversy stems from allegations that Carr has bullied ABC and forced the company to bend to the Trump administration's will. House Democratic leaders have been vocal in their criticism of Carr's actions, while President Donald Trump has praised Carr, calling him "outstanding" and a "patriot."
The controversy reached a boiling point when ABC preempted Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show "indefinitely" following comments Kimmel made. Carr had called for Kimmel's suspension before the network's decision was announced. Rep. Robert Garcia, the panel's top Democrat, is launching an investigation into the Trump administration, ABC, and Sinclair over Jimmy Kimmel.
Committee leaders aim to have Carr testify voluntarily, but Carr weighed in on the matter during an appearance on CNBC, stating that local broadcasters pushing back on national programmers is a significant moment. Carr's comments have not quelled the calls for his resignation, with Democrats on Capitol Hill continuing to demand his departure.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a Utah trucker was arrested after teens were found in a 29-degree refrigerated trailer. Human remains believed to be Travis Decker have been found in Washington, according to a sheriff's office.
