Federal Communications Commission Announces New Appointments
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Brendan Carr has made several key appointments aimed at ensuring great results for the American people.
In a significant move, Andy Hendrickson has been named as the Chief of the FCC’s Office of Engineering and Technology (OET). Hendrickson, who brings over 20 years of experience in telecommunications and digital infrastructure, will serve as the principal technical advisor, guiding spectrum policy, equipment authorization, and regulatory standards to keep pace with technological changes.
The new appointments also include Adam Chan as National Security Counsel overseeing the FCC’s Council on National Security (CNS), chaired by Carr. The CNS is aimed at strengthening the FCC’s role in safeguarding U.S. communications infrastructure from emerging threats, particularly from China.
Erin Boone has been appointed as the Acting Chief of the Media Bureau, while Patrick Webre will serve as the Acting Chief of the Enforcement Bureau. Both Boone and Webre have held numerous leadership roles at the Commission.
Trent Harkrader, who has been responsible for numerous Commission broadband policy initiatives since 2011, has been appointed as the Acting Chief of the Wireline Competition Bureau. Harkrader has led major reforms of all four of the commission’s universal service programs.
Debra Jordan is the Acting Chief of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, while Joel Taubenblatt is the Acting Chief of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau. Both Jordan and Taubenblatt have held various positions within their respective bureaus.
Eduard Bartholme is the Acting Chief of the Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau, and Jacob Lewis has been appointed as the Acting General Counsel.
Mark Stephens has been appointed as the Managing Director with oversight of the agency's budget and financial programs, human resources, contracts, purchasing, communications, computer services, physical space, security, and distribution of official FCC documents.
These appointments reflect Carr’s focus on technical expertise, national security, and spectrum policy modernization. Carr expressed gratitude towards the new appointees and looks forward to drawing on their counsel and advice.
In a related development, Arielle Roth was recently confirmed by the Senate as assistant secretary of communications and information at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Chair Carr publicly supported Roth’s role, noting her importance in advancing U.S. leadership in wireless communications and spectrum policies.
These leadership moves are expected to greatly contribute to the FCC’s mission of promoting competition, innovation, and the free flow of information in the communications marketplace.
