FCC Authority Believes Probing 'The View' Following Jimmy Kimmel's Suspension Is Valuable
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr has taken a stand against ABC News following the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel's show, "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", due to comments made about the Charlie Kirk assassin. Carr has suggested that ABC's daytime talk show, "The View", could be investigated for potentially violating broadcasting rules.
In a statement, Carr defended ABC affiliates for pulling Kimmel's show after his controversial monologue. He also criticized ABC News and Disney for not taking immediate action against Kimmel's comments, which he deemed inappropriate and harmful.
Carr is not certain if 'The View' qualifies as a bona fide news show, and has suggested the FCC should look into this. He believes 'The View' could be violating the commission's 'equal time' rule, which requires broadcasters to provide equal opportunity to all political candidates.
'The View' has been under fire for its liberal bias, with no right-wing host appearing for political discussions between January and April 2025. During this period, the show welcomed 63 liberal hosts, including nine Democratic politicians.
The suggestion for an investigation into 'The View' was made in response to Jimmy Kimmel's suspension. Carr stated that broadcasters have an obligation to operate in the public interest, and there could be additional work for the FCC if conduct isn't changed.
Interestingly, 'The View' didn't cover ABC News' removal of Jimmy Kimmel's show from the airwaves on Thursday, and the pre-taped show airing Friday won't either. It's unclear if 'The View' will address the situation in the future.
An entertainment lawyer with clients at ABC News and other networks has suggested 'The View' could be the next show on the chopping block. This comes after a White House spokesperson warned in July that 'The View' could be 'pulled off-air' if the attacks against President Donald Trump didn't stop.

As the investigation into 'The View' unfolds, it remains to be seen how ABC News will respond to the FCC's scrutiny and whether 'The View' will make changes to ensure compliance with broadcasting rules. Stay tuned for updates on this developing news story.
