FC Augsburg Welcomes New Sporting Director Benjamin Weber

Benjamin Weber, the newly appointed Sporting Director at FC Augsburg, officially began his role on Friday. The ambition for the club is high, although concrete goals have not been specified by Weber and his fellow executive Michael Stroell.

Weber's appointment was influenced by his successful tenure at SC Paderborn 07, where he promoted active football, a style that FC Augsburg also aims to play. His wife Madeleine and their two children have already found a house in the Augsburg area for their accommodation.

As Weber settles into his new role, the first competitive match for FC Augsburg under his leadership will be in the DFB Cup against Hallescher FC. However, he will not be on the trainer's bench for this game but will observe from the tribune.

The FC Augsburg training camp is scheduled for the near future, and nothing stands in the way of a productive camp. Weber will depart for the training camp shortly after his first day, aiming to get to know the players and the locker room.

In terms of transfer decisions, Weber's involvement began in or after mid-2025, and there are no available details on his ambitions or plans for the 2022 transfer window. The second wave and a potential third wave could play a role in future transfer decisions for FC Augsburg, but Weber did not specify what he meant by "a third wave."

Currently, there are no offers for FC Augsburg's key players, and the club aims to keep them in Augsburg. If offers do come in, the club will deal with them. Weber indicated that they will deal with what they can still do in the transfer window.

During his press conference, Weber presented himself as open, approachable, and ambitious. He expressed confidence that if the team works well, table positions will naturally follow. However, he also acknowledged that there might be further transfers for FC Augsburg, but he believes they have a good squad currently.

Two test matches are scheduled for the same day Weber started his job, but it remains to be seen how these will impact his early days at the club. Despite the challenges ahead, FC Augsburg is looking forward to the future under the leadership of Benjamin Weber.

As Benjamin Weber assumes his role as the new Sporting Director at FC Augsburg, he will aim to bring his successful football strategies to the team, similar to his tenure at SC Paderborn 07. Under his leadership, FC Augsburg plans to engage in competitive matches, with their first being in the DFB Cup against Hallescher FC.
