FC Thun crushes Winterthur 3–0 to extend unbeaten streak to 19 matches
FC Thun secured their ninth consecutive win with a 3–0 victory over Winterthur on Wednesday. The postponed match extended their lead at the top of the table to 14 points over St. Gallen. Winterthur, meanwhile, remain seven points adrift in the relegation playoff zone.
The game, originally scheduled earlier, finally took place midweek. Thun dominated from the start but struggled to convert early chances. Their breakthrough came in the 55th minute when Ethan Meichtry found the net, set up by Justin Roth and Valmir Matoshi.
Four minutes later, Elmin Rastoder added a second, his tenth goal of the season, again assisted by Matoshi. Winterthur's only notable opportunity fell to Andrin Hunziker in the 75th minute, but Thun's goalkeeper Niklas Steffen made the save. A defensive error by Mirlind Kryeziu then allowed Kastriot Imeri to seal the win with a third goal in the 83rd minute.
Thun's unbeaten run this season now stands at 18 wins and a single draw from 24 matches. Their next fixture sees them host Luzern, while Winterthur will travel to face St. Gallen in a crucial relegation battle.
The result leaves Thun firmly in control of the league, 14 points clear of their nearest rivals. Winterthur, however, stay in danger, trailing GC by seven points in the fight to avoid relegation. Both teams now turn their focus to upcoming fixtures in the coming days.
