FC St. Gallen extends Enrico Maassen’s contract through 2028 after Super League surge
FC St. Gallen has secured the future of head coach Enrico Maassen with a contract extension until 2028. The deal takes effect just before the club’s opening match of 2026. Under his guidance, the Swiss side has risen to second place in the Super League, building strong momentum for the new year.
Maassen, a 43-year-old German tactician, took charge of FC St. Gallen in 2024. His first season saw the team narrowly miss out on the Championship Group. Now, as league runners-up, the club enters 2026 with confidence and ambition.
His approach has particularly benefited young players. Talents like 18-year-old Cyrill May have earned regular first-team spots, while midfielder Chadrac Akolo, defender Leonidas Stergiou, and forward Willem Geubbels impressed in the 2025/26 season. Their technical ability, pace, and Maassen’s focus on youth development have set them up for key roles in the Super League.
Sporting director Roger Stilz highlighted Maassen’s positive influence on both the squad and individual players. The coach himself described FC St. Gallen as a 'healthy, forward-thinking club' with a clear vision for sustainable progress.
The extension keeps Maassen at the helm until summer 2028. His work has already elevated the team to second in the league while nurturing young talent. The club now looks ahead with stability and a focus on continued growth.
