Mislintat appointed as the coach for FC Schalke 04, officially confirmed. - FC Schalke 04 has appointed Mustafa Muslic as their new coach.

Ready to revitalize the royal blues, Miron Muslic steps into his new role as the head coach of Schalke 04. With a contract locked down till June 30, 2027, Muslic, a 42-year-old footballing maestro, heads to the Ruhr club after parting ways with Plymouth Argyle, an English second division relegated side.

Muslic himself expressed his excitement, "I'd like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the fine folks at Schalke for placing their faith in me. They made an honest and open impression from the outset, and we had open and detailed discussions about the future of Schalke."

The Gelsenkirchen-based club made use of an exit clause in Muslic's contract. Reports suggest they'll fork over a heftily-figured sum plus bonuses, with the exact figures kept under wraps. Both parties have agreed to maintain the confidentiality of details.

Though Muslic may be an obscure name in Germany, he boasts remarkable achievements in Belgium. As coach of Cercle Brugge, he managed to secure a spot in the UEFA Conference League last summer. Born in 1982, he moved to Austria as a child and honed his playing and coaching skills there before venturing out.

Jürgen Klopp, the adored coach of Schalke 04's arch-rival Borussia Dortmund, serves as a prominent inspiration for Muslic. However, his mission at Schalke isn't to mimic Klopp's attractive football style but to stabilize the club and push for a long-term return to the Bundesliga.

Frank Baumann, the soon-to-join sports director of Schalke, had nothing but praises for the new coach. "Miron has demonstrated his professional and communicative skills by inspiring teams and leaving a clear and recognizable fingerprint both on and off the pitch." Baumann highlighted Muslic's leadership qualities and tenacity, assets that will undoubtedly come in handy at Schalke.

Schalke's previous season saw a dismal performance. Karel Geraerts initially filled the head coach position, but he was replaced by Kees van Wonderen. Yet, success eluded the club, and they were thrust into a tense relegation battle until the season's end. Fimpel took over as interim coach before the season's end, leading Schalke to finish in 14th place.

Schalke's coach position has been a revolving door in recent years. After a second-place finish in 2018, the club parted ways with Domenico Tedesco in spring 2019. Since then, no fewer than twelve coaches have held the position, with Huub Stevens, Matthias Kreutzer, and Jakob Fimpel each serving temporary stints twice over.

Muslic now aims to bring the much-sought continuity to Schalke by taking the reigns and turning the club's fortunes around. Even though his former employer, Plymouth Argyle, showed disappointment upon learning of his departure, Muslic maintained a polite tone in Schalke's official statement, expressing his gratitude to the English club for allowing him to discuss his potential move.
