FC Porto edges closer to finalizing Gabri Veiga's signing.
FC Porto on the Brink of Securing Gabri Veiga Signing
Portuguese football club FC Porto is reportedly on the verge of finalizing a deal to acquire Spanish midfielder Gabri Veiga from Al-Ahli, according to sources close to the negotiations.
Negotiations between the two clubs are understood to be in their conclusive stages, as reported by transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano. A few technicalities still need to be resolved before the Spanish international can join the Portuguese outfit.
Journalist Ben Jacobs, who collaborates with GiveMeSport, has indicated that FC Porto is ready to invest a sum of approximately €17 million for Veiga's signing. The player is expected to put pen to paper on a contract that shall extend until June 2030, with an annual salary of around €1.5 million per year.
Veiga is currently under contract with Al-Ahli until 2026. In his first season with the Saudi team, he netted eight goals and set up six assists across 46 games. The midfielder's impressive displays helped Al-Ahli secure the AFC Champions League title in May 2025.
Despite his success in Saudi Arabia, Veiga has shown a keen desire to return to European football, aligning with his roots in Galicia, Spain. His decision to take a significant pay cut to make the move is indicative of his preference for competitive European football over higher earnings.
Emerging reports suggest that FC Porto is favored to secure Veiga's signature over other suitors like Newcastle United. With negotiations progressing in a positive direction, the transfer could be completed within the next few hours.
