FC Hansa Rostock vs FC Energie Cottbus: 22,700 Fans, Pyrotechnics Cause Delay
A football match between FC Hansa Rostock and FC Energie Cottbus attracted approximately 22,700 spectators. Despite being classified as high-risk, the event was largely peaceful, with around 1,200 visiting fans arriving and departing safely. However, pyrotechnics ignited by fans led to criminal proceedings and a ten-minute delay.
The match was closely monitored by around 600 officers, assisted by units from Berlin, Brandenburg, and Saxony-Anhalt. While the majority of fans behaved well, some from both teams set off pyrotechnics, violating the Explosives Act. This resulted in two criminal proceedings under the Assembly Act.
In an unfortunate incident, a 26-year-old German was reported for suspected dangerous bodily harm. Additionally, a cup was thrown from the east stand towards the visiting team's bench. The burning pyrotechnics caused a temporary delay due to visibility issues, lasting about ten minutes.
Despite the disturbances, the event was largely controlled, with no major incidents reported during the arrival and departure of visiting fans. Anne Schwartz, an employee at the Rostock Police Headquarters, handled press inquiries related to the event.
