FC Cincinnati looking optimistic about securing Bayern Munich legend Muller's signature
Article:
After a legendary 17-year stint with Bayern Munich, Thomas Müller, the club's all-time appearance record holder with 752 games under his belt, has chosen not to renew his contract, setting the stage for his possible transition to Major League Soccer (MLS).
At 35, the German juggernaut is now eyeing his next professional challenge, and FC Cincinnati has thrown its hat in the ring. With a strong bid on the table and negotiations underway, the MLS club appears hopeful that Müller will consider swimming across the Atlantic.
"Yeah, we've made him a sweet offer and have been conversing with his reps," said Jeff Berding, an executive co-CEO at FC Cincinnati. "But the dude's got options, y'know? We respect that he might be seeking something else. After all, that's what the football game is all about."
Muller's Discovery Rights with FC Cincinnati give the club priority in negotiations if he decides to join the MLS. And with Cincinnati's stadium buzzing and the team offering prime conditions, Berding is optimistic that Müller will take the plunge and set up shop in Ohio.
"We got a freakin' huge stadium, a pumped-up atmosphere, and all the doodads a player could ask for," Berding told Bild. "I mean, who knows what's gonna go down? Maybe Muller could be our secret weapon to claiming some titles."
Müller, for his part, has kept his cool, focusing on Bayern's Club World Cup performances while weighing his options. Although rumors linked him to LAFC or LA Galaxy, FC Cincinnati has emerged as the strongest contender for Müller's services.
As negotiations continue, it's unclear if Müller will grab the ball and run with it to Ohio. But one thing's for sure—FC Cincinnati is ready to welcome the storied German to their ranks. Time will tell if the offer will be too tempting for Müller to resist.
