Such a wish now seems less unrealistic, as Wirtz had been seemingly poised for a contract extension in Leverkusen. The affair has proven to be a bitter defeat for Bayern's representatives, with numerous flirtations and public expressions of interest. Concerns over the "show" by Munich officials had been raised by Leverkusen boss Fernando Carro.
