FC Bayern's Target Wirtz Rejects Munich Move - Star Player Consents to Terms
Versatile Talisman Wirtz Chooses Liverpool Over Bayern
Following a supposedly impactful trip to Anfield Road, Florian Wirtz, one of Europe's most coveted footballers, has reportedly decided to join Liverpool FC. In discussions with Arne Slot, the young prodigy made a decision eagerly awaited by German and English football enthusiasts. Contrary to speculation, Wirtz appears set to forgo a move to FC Bayern Munich.
Confirming the rejection, Bayern President Herbert Hainer stated, "Max Eberl informed me that Florian Wirtz is apparently leaning towards Liverpool." However, Hainer could not comment on the future of Wirtz's tenure with Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool's New Record-Breaking Transfer?
If Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen seal a deal this summer, a drawn-out transfer saga marked by twists, rumors, and alleged agreements may soon come to an end. As per Sky reports, Wirtz has allegedly personally agreed with LFC.
According to The Athletic, negotiations between the clubs are already underway. Given the national player's market value of €140 million, Leverkusen has yet to publicly announce a pain threshold. But, with Liverpool owned by the US-American Fenway Sports Group, Wirtz could likely become their new record signing.
Völler Wishes Wirtz More Time in Leverkusen
The hype around Wirtz had reached an all-time high in recent months, with experts and ex-professionals offering advice. Rudi Völler, the DFB sports director and former Bayer manager, even wished for Wirtz to stay one more year in Leverkusen.
Such a wish now seems less unrealistic, as Wirtz had been seemingly poised for a contract extension in Leverkusen. Bayern legends such as Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had publicly expressed interest, but their efforts may have been in vain, following Wirtz's visit to Liverpool. According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Wirtz reportedly made his decision shortly after the trip last week.
Bayern's Missed Opportunity
The affair has proven to be a bitter defeat for Bayern's representatives, with numerous flirtations and public expressions of interest. Concerns over the "show" by Munich officials had been raised by Leverkusen boss Fernando Carro.
With Wirtz joining the English champions, Bayern has reportedly agreed on a deal with Leverkusen's defensive chief Jonathan Tah. The diplomatic announcement of this transfer is expected soon. (sid/abl)
