FC Bayern's legendary player Müller sets historical shift, set to join Vancouver's team

Former FC Bayern Munich Star Thomas Müller Joins Vancouver Whitecaps FC

Thomas Müller, a legendary figure at FC Bayern Munich, has announced his move to Major League Soccer (MLS) side Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The German forward will be donning the number 13 jersey for his new team, with the length of his contract extending until the end of 2026, subject to a Designated Player option.

Müller's decision to continue his career overseas came after his contract with FC Bayern Munich was not renewed. Initially, he was rumoured to be heading to Los Angeles FC, but Vancouver Whitecaps managed to secure a "right of first refusal" for the prolific striker through previous negotiations with FC Cincinnati.

The transfer fee details include Vancouver acquiring the Discovery Priority for Müller from FC Cincinnati by paying $200,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money (GAM), $100,000 in 2026 GAM, and an additional conditional $100,000 in 2026 GAM.

Müller's move to Vancouver Whitecaps marks the end of his career with FC Bayern Munich, where he made a record-breaking 756 appearances. During his two-decade-long tenure, he won two Champions League titles, 13 German championships, and six DFB Cups.

In an Instagram video, Müller confirmed his move to Vancouver Whitecaps, saying "Whitecaps, let's make history." The video also showed him being delivered a package containing his new Vancouver Whitecaps jersey with the number 13.

It's worth noting that Müller's former teammate, Alphonso Davies, previously played for Vancouver Whitecaps.

Müller's move to Vancouver Whitecaps is not a free transfer, despite his contract with FC Bayern Munich expiring. He will be setting foot on Canadian soil pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate, visa, and work permit.

Before joining Vancouver Whitecaps, Müller had been keeping fit on the training ground of FC Bayern Munich and was recently allowed to participate in team training.

As Müller embarks on a new chapter of his illustrious career, fans of Vancouver Whitecaps FC eagerly await his debut in the MLS.

Thomas Müller's choice to explore American soccer resulted in him being linked with Los Angeles FC, but he eventually decided to join Vancouver Whitecaps FC instead, marking his foray into American-football. In the upcoming season, Müller may also demonstrate a versatility beyond his exceptional soccer skills, given that American-football and Canadian football can share some similarities with soccer, such as a focus on quick passing and tactical maneuvers.
