Bayern Munich started their pre-season campaign with a win against Olympique Lyonnais, securing a 2-1 victory in their first summer test. The match, held on August 3, 2025, marked the debut of Luis Díaz, who joined the German giants from Liverpool in late July.

Díaz, a versatile left winger known for his goal-scoring ability and high work rate, made his first minutes in an FC Bayern shirt during the friendly match. He was immediately involved in pre-season training under coach Vincent Kompany and signed a contract with the club until June 30, 2029, donning the number 14 jersey.

The transfer fee for Díaz amounted to £65.5 million, making it Bayern's third highest ever, reflecting the club's high regard for the new signing. Bayern's sporting directors praised Díaz's versatility, goal threat, international quality, and work rate, emphasising that he brings important experience and skill to the team.

Débutant Díaz replaced the absent Aleksandar Pavlovic in the midfield, with Pavlovic still recovering from an orbital fracture sustained during training. The length of his absence is currently unknown. Meanwhile, João Palhinha was not present in the squad, as reports suggest he is set to be loaned to Tottenham Hotspur.

The first half of the match ended goalless, but Bayern took the lead in the 53rd minute when Michael Olise converted a penalty after a foul on Díaz in the penalty area. Olise added another goal in the 62nd minute to extend Bayern's lead to 2-0.

Despite missing three clear chances to score, Díaz played a crucial role in setting up the leading goal for Bayern Munich. However, Lyon's Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez scored a goal in the 83rd minute, reducing the deficit to 2-1.

The friendly match against Lyon served as a valuable test for Bayern Munich as they prepare for their next friendly against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday. Highlights and behind-the-scenes footage from the match are available via FC Bayern's official channels.
