FC Bayern's Preseason Friendly: A Promising Debut for Luis Díaz

Luis Díaz, the new signing for FC Bayern Munich, made a strong impression in his debut during the preseason friendly against Olympique Lyon on August 2, 2025. The game, which served as Bayern's first summer test, ended with a 2:1 win for the Bavarians.

Díaz, who joined Bayern from Liverpool, came on as a substitute at half-time and was deployed as a left striker by coach Vincent Kompany. Despite not scoring himself, Díaz's attacking effectiveness in the final third was commendable. He put in a strong performance, creating scoring opportunities and was instrumental in setting up the leading goal for Bayern.

In the 53rd minute, Michael Olise scored a penalty for FC Bayern, converting after a foul on Díaz in the penalty area. Olise then scored another goal in the 62nd minute, making it 2:0 for Bayern. Díaz's efforts, however, were not enough to prevent Lyon from scoring a late consolation in the 83rd minute, courtesy of Alejandro Rodríguez.

Díaz's performance was praised by his teammates, with Harry Kane highlighting his hunger and positive attitude. Despite good chances, Díaz was unable to score a goal in the game. Nonetheless, he expressed satisfaction with his debut and eagerness to score and win titles with Bayern going forward.

Meanwhile, the departure of João Palhinha from Munich seems imminent, as the clubs have reportedly agreed on a deal for his loan to Tottenham Hotspur. Palhinha was not in the squad due to transfer talks.

Aleksandar Pavlovic, another key player for Bayern, was absent due to an undisclosed injury. Pavlovic had been out for a long time in the second half of the previous season due to Pfeiffer's glandular fever, and earlier in the first half of the season, he suffered a metacarpal fracture. More recently, Pavlovic suffered a fracture of the eye socket in training and underwent surgery.

Despite Díaz's impressive debut and the eventual win, the game was scoreless until the 53rd minute. Díaz failed three times to score against Lyon goalkeepers Rémy Descamps and Mathieu Patouillet in the game.

Bayern's next match is scheduled against Tottenham Hotspur at the Telekom Cup, where Díaz is expected to feature again. The club and fans alike are hopeful he will continue to integrate swiftly during the preseason and contribute significantly in the Bundesliga season ahead.

Díaz's impact was evident even in preseason, as he demonstrated his attacking effectiveness in the final third and was instrumental in setting up goals, such as the penalty scored by Michael Olise in the 53rd minute during FC Bayern's preseason friendly against Olympique Lyon.

Looking ahead, Bayern fans are eager to see how Díaz will perform in upcoming matches, particularly against European leagues like the Premier League, as the club prepares to face Tottenham Hotspur at the Telekom Cup.
