FC Barcelona defender Umtiti departs for Qatar for medical intervention
Barcelona Defender Samuel Umtiti Heads to Qatar for Knee Treatment
Barcelona's France centre-back, Samuel Umtiti, has travelled to Doha, Qatar for further treatment on his persistent knee issue. The objective of his treatment plan is to alleviate discomfort in his left knee.
Umtiti has been sidelined for two months, making just eight appearances for Barcelona this season before his latest setback. He returned to play against Atletico Madrid last weekend, playing the full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw. However, despite his return, he did not participate in Barcelona's Champions League game against PSV.
The exact nature of Umtiti's treatment plan is conservative, and he will be under the care of Dr. Olivier Bringer, a renowned doctor who will be supervising his rehabilitation in Doha.
Barcelona's medical services will also be closely monitoring Umtiti's progress during his treatment. With the treatment plan in place, it remains uncertain whether Umtiti will participate in Barcelona's match against Villarreal at Camp Nou on Sunday.
Currently, Barcelona is one point behind Sevilla in the LaLiga table, with 27 points after 13 matches. The team's next match against Villarreal will be a crucial one for the Catalan giants as they aim to close the gap at the top of the table.
Umtiti, who joined Barcelona from Lyon in 2016, has made 91 appearances for LaLiga's champions, Barcelona, to date. His absence will undoubtedly be felt in the heart of Barcelona's defence, but the team will be hoping for a speedy recovery for the French centre-back.
