FBI suspect in custody following vehicle collision at Pittsburgh headquarters, suspected as an act of terror, authorities claim.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a dramatic incident unfolded at the FBI building in Pittsburgh. A Pennsylvania man named Donald Henson was apprehended following a targeted attack on the building.
The incident began at around 2:40 a.m., when Henson, a former military member, drove his car into the main entrance gate of the FBI building. The Pittsburgh Police Department responded to the 3300 block of E. Carson Street for a reported vehicle collision at about 3 a.m.
FBI Special Agent in Charge, Christopher Giordano, described the incident as intentional. No one was injured in the ramming, but there was 'some vulgarity' scrawled on the side of the vehicle. After the crash, Henson allegedly took an American flag out of the trunk and stuck it on the gate.
The FBI compared surveillance video with Henson's driver's license photo to further identify him. The FBI confirmed Henson's apprehension 'a short time ago'. The FBI is leading the ongoing investigation and is treating the incident as an act of terror against the FBI.
It is believed that Henson may have been experiencing a mental health issue, but there is no information available about the past location of Donald Henson before the event at the FBI building in Pittsburgh. The FBI is working with the local U.S. Attorneys Office to draft a complaint against Henson.
Henson is the registered owner of the vehicle involved in the incident. It is worth noting that he had come to the Pittsburgh Steelers office within the last few weeks to make a complaint, but no federal crime was found to charge.
The vehicle collided with a gate outside of the building, and the driver exited the vehicle and fled the scene. The FBI is urging anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward and contact their local law enforcement.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the dedication of our law enforcement agencies in maintaining the safety and security of our communities. More information will be released as it becomes available.
