FBI Co-Deputy Director role filled by Missouri Attorney General, assisted by Dan Bongino, as indicated by Bondi and Patel
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey Named Co-Deputy Director of the FBI
In a historic move, Andrew Bailey, the former Missouri Attorney General, has been appointed as the co-deputy director of the FBI. This marks the first time in the bureau’s history that it will have two deputy directors simultaneously.
Bailey, a decorated war veteran, brings a strong background of tough, constitutionally grounded leadership to his new role. As Missouri Attorney General, he launched an anti-human trafficking task force and worked to clear backlogs of Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence kits in the state.
The announcement was made by Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel, who praised Bailey as a significant asset to national law enforcement efforts under the Department of Justice. They emphasized his dedication to advancing what they describe as President Donald Trump’s mission and strengthening law enforcement efforts nationally.
Bailey’s role as co-deputy director is expected to include managing day-to-day FBI operations alongside the existing Deputy Director Dan Bongino. However, the exact division of responsibilities has not been clarified.
Bailey’s appointment follows some internal controversy around Bongino over the release of Jeffrey Epstein investigation files. Bailey has publicly committed to protecting America and upholding the Constitution in his new federal position.
The news of Bailey’s appointment was first reported by Fox News Digital, and was met with a "Welcome" post from Dan Bongino on social media, accompanied by three American flag emojis. It is not immediately clear how Bongino and Bailey will split the duties of co-deputy directors.
Prior to his appointment, Bailey was under consideration to lead the FBI before the president’s inauguration. However, CNN reported that President Trump was not impressed with Bailey and did not believe he fit the mold of the legal bulldog the president-elect wanted to helm the FBI.
Bailey announced his departure from his position as Missouri Attorney General on social media, expressing gratitude for his tenure. He is expected to resign as Missouri AG in early September 2025 to take on this federal role.
