FBI Chief Removes Tweet Concerning Wisconsin Judge's Arrest; Reason Behind Deletion Remains Unknown
In a curious turn of events, Kash Patel, the FBI's director who seems to enjoy stirring the pot of conspiracy theories, tweeted about the arrest of Judge Hannah Dugan from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Friday. Allegedly, Judge Dugan was charged with obstructing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after obstructing an immigration arrest operation last week. However, Patel decided to delete the initial tweet before sending out an identical one a couple of hours later. The reason for this strange deletion is still a mystery.
Patel wrote, "We believe Judge Dugan intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the subject to be arrested in her courthouse, Eduardo Flores Ruiz, allowing him to evade arrest." He continued, describing the scene like a cheesy 80s cop show, stating, "thankfully our agents chased down the perp on foot," and insisting that, "the Judge's obstruction created increased danger to the public."
It's worth mentioning that Judge Hannah Dugan, if indeed she did interfere with the ICE operation, was not the only one with differing opinions, according to experts. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel spoke with five of them, none of whom thought she should be charged with a crime. The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed the arrest of Judge Dugan around 8:30 a.m. local time (9:30 a.m. ET) on courthouse property. She was charged with two felonies: obstruction and concealing an individual.
Judge Dugan, 65, earned her JD in 1987 and was elected to the county court, Branch 31, in 2016. Before that, she worked at Legal Action of Wisconsin and the Legal Aid. It is important to note that President Donald Trump has a tendency to prosecute federal judges in such cases, as observed in a similar instance in 2019, albeit one that was dropped during the Biden administration.
Kash Patel's enthusiastic embrace of conspiracies, including QAnon, publishing a list of supposed deep state officials to target, and promising to "come after" the media, should be a source of concern. Yet, many of his supporters have expressed frustration about the perceived lack of action against perceived enemies. However, it remains to be seen if Patel will intensify his efforts to usher in the "arrest judges" stage of fascism, following his recent tweets about the Judge Dugan case.
- The future of policy-and-legislation surrounding judicial conduct and immigration enforcement seems to be a topic of interest, especially in the light of Kash Patel's tweets about the arrest of Judge Hannah Dugan.
- In the realm of tech and general news, the unusual deletion and re-tweet by Kash Patel about Judge Dugan's arrest has sparked debate, with Gizmodo and other tech publications scrutinizing his motives.
- The politics of prosecuting federal judges, as seen in the case of Judge Dugan and the similar instance in 2019, have stirred controversy, with legal experts questioning the legitimacy of such actions.
- Crime-and-justice discussions have been heightened, as more light is shed on the role of Kash Patel in advocating for the arrest of judges, a position that some perceive as a step towards fascism.
