Former Ekiti Governor Emmanuel Fayose Leaves PDP, Joins African Democratic Congress

Emmanuel Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and is in talks to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.

Fayose made this announcement at a press conference in Abuja, where he described the PDP as a "compromised party." In a widely circulated video, he accused the PDP's leadership of acting as "stooges for the ruling party, APC."

Fayose alleged betrayal and compromise by the PDP's national leadership as the reason for his resignation. He stated that he and his supporters could no longer continue in the PDP due to its lack of fairness and internal democracy. Fayose further accused the PDP's forthcoming primaries in Ekiti of being compromised, and any candidate produced through these primaries may not be recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a closed-door meeting with the National Secretary of the ADC, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Fayose was encouraged to join the party without delay. Aregbesola stated that the ADC is open to strong grassroots leaders capable of building alternative structures.

Fayose's aspiration to serve is tied to a party that offers fairness and internal democracy. He expressed his desire to represent the PDP in the 2026 gubernatorial elections but felt the party had failed to live up to its promises. With his move to the ADC, Fayose hopes to bring his political experience and leadership skills to a party that aligns more closely with his values.

As the political landscape in Ekiti State continues to evolve, the decision by Emmanuel Fayose to leave the PDP and join the ADC is a significant development. The ADC, which has been positioning itself as a viable alternative to the major parties, may benefit from Fayose's political capital and his reputation as a strong grassroots leader. The 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State is expected to be a closely contested race, and Fayose's move to the ADC could shake up the political dynamics in the state.
