Wuhan Open 2025: Top Players Battle in Third Round
The Wuhan Open 2025 is heating up as the third round, also known as the last 16, is underway. The tournament, which began last Sunday, has seen some exciting matches so far, with top players and promising young talents vying for a spot in the quarterfinals.
One of the most anticipated matchups is between Judd Trump, the current Shanghai Masters and Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters champion, and the young prodigy Stan Moody. Moody, who turned professional at 16, has been making waves in the snooker world, earning the title of one of the most promising young players. The 18-year-old has an impressive track record, having won several youth tournaments, including the English U14 championship in 2019 and 2021, the English U16 and U18 titles in 2022, and the WSF Junior Championship in 2022.
Moody secured his place in the third round with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Ryan Day in the second round. Trump, on the other hand, defeated He Guoqiang 5-2 to advance. Their highly anticipated match is scheduled, but the exact pairings and times for today's schedule are not fully detailed.
Other notable players still in contention include Zhao Xintong, Xiao Guodong, Mark Williams, Mark Selby, John Higgins, Mark Allen, Shaun Murphy, and Aaron Hill. Aaron Hill, who won against Lei Peifan 4-2 in the second round, is a contender today, having also defeated Ishpreet Singh Chadha 5-2 to advance to the third round.
In other matchups, Kyren Wilson will play against Xiao Guodong, while Shaun Murphy faces off against Noppon Saengkham. John Higgins advanced to the third round with a 5-4 win over Fan Zhengyi.
Several top players are missing from the Wuhan Open due to various reasons. Notably, Mark Selby, the British Open champion, and Luca Brecel, the 2023 World Champion, did not qualify for the tournament.
Zhang Anda and Hossein Vafaei could have a rematch in the third round, having last faced off at the British Open two weeks ago. Judd Trump is currently the bookmakers' favourite for the tournament victory, leading the WST world rankings.
However, the tournament is far from over, with a total of 32 players still in the running. The excitement continues as the third round matches unfold, with today's highlight being Stan Moody's face-off against Barry Hawkins in the third round of the Wuhan Open.
