Ore Mountains Bus Catastrophe: Investigation Underway for Suspected Driver Negligence
After the disastrous bus collision in the Ore Mountains that claimed a ten-year-old life, authorities have initiated an investigation into the bus driver. The 45-year-old suspect is being probed for involuntary manslaughter and negligent bodily harm, as reported by a Chemnitz public prosecutor's office spokeswoman to the German Press Agency. The accident took place on Tuesday morning, impacting a school bus in Sehmatal, located south of Chemnitz. The bus collided sideways with a winter service vehicle and subsequently plowed into a tree, leading to a ten-year-old fatality. Thirteen other individuals, including eleven minors, sustained injuries.
The rescued bus driver, identified as a 45-year-old, suffered severe injuries, and a 59-year-old female passenger also sustained critical injuries. Both victims are presently in stable condition but remain under medical observation.
Authorities are relentlessly pursuing the cause of the incident. Both vehicles have now been seized, and an expert has been requested to pinpoint the accident's cause.
The following day, Saxony's state government victim support officer Iris Kloppich extended her assistance to those affected.
