Get Ready for Fat Bear Week 2022's Online Voting Extravaganza!
With the crisp autumn air arrives an unlikely celebratory event: The Fat Bear Week at Katmai National Park and Preserve, complete with the Fat Bear Championship 2022. Unlike corporate basketball events, you too can partake and have a significant impact on the outcome. The event's public voting extravaganza kicks off on a Wednesday, marking your chance to applaud the brown bears' resilience, adaptability, and strength.
The national park has been aggressively marketing the event in social media platforms, including Twitter. Catmai's website provides vibrant, captivating biographies, and informative "Before & After" images of the remarkable brown bear contestants, who have been preparing since their spring awakening.
One of the prominent participants, "32 Chunk," was once a colossal and dominant bear in the Cascade mountains, estimated to weigh around 1,200 pounds. He had a reputation for sieging the best fishing spots and mating opportunities.
Unlike their male counterparts in the March Madness, female brown bears compete alongside their male counterparts in the same tournament.
A highlight of the event is visiting the Fat Bear Week website, which provides a glimpse into each participant's achievements and leads to the interactive voting section where you, too, can immerse yourselves in the experience.
The event kicks off at 12 p.m. ET on a Wednesday and runs until the grand finale, "Fat Bear Tuesday," on October 11, where the final two champions will face off.
Visit the voting section to check out the pairings and instructions for casting your vote to witness the exciting race to the finish line. Catmai serves up a river full of resources for these brown bears, providing a steady Lachs supply throughout the year.
The Brooks River plays a significant role in the event, attracting millions of viewers worldwide. As per the voting website, "Perhaps no river in the world has the capability of maintaining a long-term salmon supply."
"Live from the River" is available online weekdays, attracting around 1,060 viewers every Thursday at 12:50 p.m. ET. This fun-filled event underlines the beauty of the rhythm of life while brown bears prepare for their winter hibernation.
Bears shed as much as one-third of their body weight during their hibernation. Their survival depends on building adequate fat reserves before they retreat into their dens.
"480 Otis" is the reigning champion for 2021, a seasoned bear who has previously won titles in 2014, 2016, and 2017.
