Fast and Furious: Under the Hood Reveals 1991 Acura NSX with 252,000 Miles Passing as Iron Man's Luxury Roadster

The one-of-a-kind Acura NSX Roadster, famously driven by Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark (Iron Man) in the 2012 movie The Avengers, is set to be auctioned off in 2026 for charity. This iconic piece of automotive and Marvel history will make its first public appearance in over a decade at Monterey Car Week 2025, specifically showcased at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering on August 15, 2025.

Originally, the second-generation NSX did not exist until 2016. Consequently, producers had to create a drivable prop based on the 2012 NSX concept. The Acura NSX Roadster was custom-designed by the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles under then-Creative Director Dave Marek. The designers blended styling cues from the second-generation NSX Concept onto a first-generation 1991 NSX donor car with over 252,000 miles on the odometer.

The car, which appeared briefly at the end of The Avengers, remains exactly as it did on screen 13 years ago. It features the 'Stark 33' license plate and boasts a manual transmission, 2-inch suspension drop, 18-inch wheels, and aftermarket seats. The hand-crafted resin and fiberglass body was fitted to a first-generation NSX, providing a unique blend of Hollywood design and Honda/Acura engineering heritage.

This vehicle has been kept in pristine condition over the years, a testament to the care it has received. Acura will begin accepting hand raisers at Monterey Car Week for those interested in bidding on the Acura NSX Roadster next year.

The Avengers was one of the better Marvel movies, particularly notable for being the first big multi-star assembly. The Acura NSX Roadster, with its limited screen time, has become iconic among fans. The car's interior remains that of the first-generation NSX, preserving the original character of the vehicle.

This upcoming auction offers a rare opportunity for fans and collectors to own a piece of automotive history that played a significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Stay tuned for more details on the auction as they become available.
